Change number format from comma to decimal in Windows 11

2025-07-26 09:31:05

Hello Kim_KB64,

Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

In Windows 11, changing the number format from using a comma (,) to a decimal point (.) for numbers (like changing 2,42 to 2.42) involves modifying the Regional Settings, but the steps are slightly different than in previous versions like Windows 10. Here's how you can change the number format:

Steps to Change Number Format in Windows 11:

  1. Open Settings:

    • Click on the Start Menu and select Settings

  2. Go to Time & Language:

    • In the Settings window, click on Time & Language from the left sidebar.

  3. Open Language & Region:

    • Under the Time & Language section, click on Language & Region.

  4. Advanced Regional Settings:

    • Scroll down and click on Regional format settings (or directly on Additional date, time & regional settings under the "Related settings" section).

  5. Change Formats:

    • A new window will open. Scroll down and click on Change data formats under the "Regional format" section.

  6. Modify the Number Format:

    • In the Change Data Formats window, you will see an option for Decimal symbol.

      • If it's set to a comma (,), change it to a period (.).

      • This will make the system use a decimal point (.) instead of a comma in number formatting.

  7. Save Changes:

    • Once you've made the change, your system will apply it immediately.

Alternative Method Using Control Panel (Classic Control Panel Interface):

If you prefer using the Control Panel interface for a more detailed change, you can also access the settings from there:

  1. Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog.

  2. Type Control and press Enter to open Control Panel.

  3. Go to Clock and Region > Region.

  4. In the Region window, click on the Formats tab, then click on Additional settings.

  5. In the Customize Format window, look for the Decimal symbol field and change it from a comma to a period.

  6. Click OK to save the settings.

I had to resort to using the Control Panel Regional settings, no additional settings or advanced settings anywhere in the latest Windows 11 as far as I can see.,
